Suttons Bay Virtual Student Joins Task Force in Washington D.C.
Aydrian Day, a Suttons Bay Virtual School student, had the opportunity to join a task force of other young people in Washington D.C. recently as part of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. Aydrian, along with his fellow representatives, was able to teach about the historic and sacred significance of tobacco within his and other Indigenous peoples' cultures and in-turn, learn about ways to help combat the commercial use of tobacco by young people across the country. Reflecting on his experience, Aydrian said, "I am grateful that I (was) raised to know that tobacco is sacred and that my family uses it for prayer and not to hurt our bodies or our future generations. It was a really good experience to team up with people from all over America to combat the abuse of commercial tobacco."
Aydrian is also grateful for the opportunity to be part of Suttons Bay Virtual School, which offers the scheduling flexiblity to allow him to take part in these types of educational experiences.
